This page explains, in plain language, what personal information Open Period collects, why, and how to reach us. It is a collection notice for our expression-of-interest and free-trial stage. A full Privacy Policy and Terms of Service — reviewed by an Australian lawyer — will be published before any paid plan opens.
Open Period is operated by Scott Walters, trading as Open Period Press, an independent Australian education tool built by an Australian teacher, for Australian teachers. We intend to incorporate as Open Period Press Pty Ltd and will update this notice when we do. Contact: hello@openperiodpress.com.
If you enter your email to see a sample or register your interest, we collect your email address. That is all we collect on this website. We do not collect student information through this site.
We never sell or rent your details, and we never share them for marketing.
Student work you paste is de-identified — names and identifiers stripped — before anything is sent for AI feedback, once in the app and again on our server, with the count shown on every output. We do not store student drafts, the feedback, or your prompt content on our servers; your work stays in your own browser.
De-identified text is processed by Anthropic (a US provider) under its commercial API terms, which state that inputs and outputs are not used to train its models. Where you photograph handwriting for transcription, a name written on the page is visible to the AI during that step, so keep names off the page or crop them out. De-identification is a strong safeguard but not infallible, so removing student names yourself remains the primary step. Always follow your school system's AI policy.
We use a small number of service providers, each under commercial terms. Your information may be processed on servers outside Australia by them.
We keep your email only while it is useful for your trial and updates. You can ask us to delete your details at any time by emailing hello@openperiodpress.com, and we will remove them.
Registering your interest and starting the trial are entirely optional and commit you to nothing. There is no payment at this stage.
← Back to Open PeriodThis is the current collection notice for the Open Period website during its expression-of-interest and free-trial stage. Open Period produces estimates for drafting and practice, never official marks; the on-balance judgement is always the teacher's. Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply, always.
